Tile Trends – What’s Hot Moving into 2016

We’re back from a small hiatus and bringing to you an article all about what’s trending in tile. It’s officially fall, the kids are back in school and we’re all going to be spending a lot more time in our homes. And so, as they say, there is no time better than the present to get started on home improvement projects. Let’s take a look at what’s going on in the wide world of tile and hopefully inspire you with some of the biggest trends.

MOSAICSĀ

You can make a statement that is bold yet elegant by utilizing mosaic tiles in non-traditional shapes. Hexagons, marquise, ovals and more all put a chic twist on mosaics. Also gaining momentum are glass tiles in a multitude of hues, metallic finishes and even pencil tiles. These trends add visual interest and a fresh take on a classic.

SUBWAY TILE

A trend that has found new life and is continuing to build steam is subway tile. While many would argue that it isn’t what you would call timeless, it is certainly a classic. Have fun with subway tile by changing up the layout – go graphic, go vertical, go big. What’s old can become new again, and subway tile is certainly proof of that.

BLACK IS THE NEW BLACK

Gray tones will remain popular for the foreseeable future, joined by a bevy of soft blacks. In addition, pastels will become the chic, new neutrals, which contrast well against the gray and black tones.

TEXTURE, TEXTURE, TEXTURE

While glossy finishes and new beveled glass tile is making a splash, different, matte textures are making an appearance in more and more designs. This is in-line with a softer, more accessible feel. Think wood-grain/wood-look tile (which is a trend unto itself) or fabric-look tiles.

AU NATUREL

We live in the age of the eco-conscious and are really embracing nature. So it follows that natural materials are becoming huge. Natural stone, marble, granite and others all offer a one-of-a-kind look to any home since no two stones, tiles or slabs are exactly alike.
